We went for the cricket world cup match between India and Pakistan at Adelaide on 15 Feb 2015. As every Indian or Pakistani cricket fan knows, this was the 6th time the two were meeting in the world cup and India had won all 5 previous encounters. That’s staggering since in general Pakistan has a better head to head track record than India. Big match temperament? Wonderfully, this time was no different and India won comfortably.
A highlight was Virat Kohl’s century. He had had an ordinary ODI series against Australia till then but rocked when it mattered most. I managed to take a few photos using the Olympus OM-D EM-5 and the Panasonic Lumix 100-300 lens. Its absolutely stunning that such a light package can give such incredible reach and results.
It is wonderful that I live so close to Hong Kong Park – basically a 5 minute walk down. Walking up takes slightly longer because it is uphill 🙂 It was great for the kids growing up and it continues to be a very nice place to go for photography. The aviary is a great place for taking bird photos and walking around outside one often comes across wonderful butterflies.
I usually take the Olympus OM-D E-M5 with the Panasonic Lumix 100-300 lens. This is just a wonderful combination. The OM-D E-M5 has to go down as one of the all time classics. For that size of body, it is a sensational combination of quality and features. The Pany 100-300 is amazing for the length it provides for the size of lens. Autofocus can hunt on occasion but its not really an issue. I usually manage to take 90%+ of the photos I want to, which trust me is amazing for a 600mm equivalent focal length. I know for a fact that I would never be able to carry DSLR gear of that size.
Here are a few photos that I took from a walk on 23 November 2014.
I used to have this blog once upon a time, long before I got distracted by Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr etc etc. I don’t want to denigrate those sites, I still spend a fair bit a time there and they have wonderful communities. However, I fond it very difficult to do anything on a thematic basis there. For instance, if want to to just put pictures from a roll of Kodak Portra 400shot on my Contax G2, the whole format for the post is just too inelegant. I recognise that hardly anybody reads blogs now. Even I don’t find the time. But I guess, this is just about writing and showing photos and its a rather selfish endeavour for self-fulfilment, never mind whether anybody actually reads it.
At the current time, I am thinking that my focus will be on photography. But then I do have other passions as well – food, drink, travel, and hiking to name a few. I may drop something from those topics from time to time.
